Who we are

Health For Haringey supports community groups to develop physical activity projects.

This is to increase people’s levels of physical activity to improve their health and lifestyle by encouraging regular exercise and to form friendship networks for people who may feel socially isolated.

We work with community groups to set up and run the activities and pay for most of the initial set-up costs.

SOME CURRENT PROJECTS

Health For Haringey is for people from all communities including:

· Black and Minority Ethnic Groups
· Refugees and Asylum Seekers
· Older People
· People with Physical and Learning Disabilities

We welcome ideas for projects from any groups that work with these communities.  We work in partnership with the staff and members of local voluntary organisations and health services, to identify and bring groups together.

Health For Haringey has three phases:

Phase 1
An initial 12-weeks of sessions funded by Health for Haringey will include individual fitness assessments and information and discussions on health related topics.

Phase 2

Some participants will be invited to train as project volunteers and will then be involved in developing further stages of the project.

Some continuation funding can be provided by Health For Haringey to maintain the projects.  Additional funding will need to be sourced from participants themselves or from alternative funding sources.

Phase 3
The project becomes a self running group with support from the project volunteer and the host organisation.
