has over the past year given funding to The Outreach Service, Haringey Day Opportunities. This has enabled us to offer Yoga classes to adults with Severe Learning Disabilities. This group has been very successful in providing a valuable activity that has offered everyone the opportunity to keep fit, improve their self confidence and also to have a whole lot of fun.
Shaun Kelly (Yoga Instructor) has in the past year been of great inspiration to us and he has enabled everyone to participate in a very physically challenging session. Shaun has taught us poses like “the lion, down facing dog, the snake” and lots of other Yoga positions.
Yoga has proved to be one of the most popular activities we run. We have people attending from Keston Day Services as well as our neighbours from the local community.
The physical benefit of this activity has been very encouraging and Yoga has also helped some of its members to lose weight.
The best thing about this group has been that anyone can participate, Shaun has adapted certain parts of the session so that people with different disabilities can get the most out of these sessions. This has proved to be very successful with the Service Users and when asked if they would like to continue with the activity we always get big smiles and “yes”.
For Carers Week on the 11th of June, we have invited Parents and Carers to visit and to participate in the Yoga session. This will be a good opportunity for everyone to meet up and to fully appreciate the benefits of this excellent group. Without Health For Haringey’s funding this would not be possible, all members of our Yoga group would like to thank you for this opportunity.
